Hello everyone, I apologise for the delay in posting the blog but we have had computer problems. Hugh has been unable to Email me with his usual report so we have had to rely on snail mail. Under Hugh,s guidance I had hoped to scan the letter but unfortunately my printer does not have that facility so I have had to write it all out again. Here goes.

Conditions were cold and sunny initially, but gradually glazed over with approaching warm front. Wind force 1-3 in various parts of the pond, variable in direction SSW to SW,but in places eddies reversed the flow. Weather for thinking sailors, on constant watch.

Leslie ,Odd and John were first racing, joined as the day went on by Jim and Grant. Phil joined later but due to equipment problems was only able to start later, and was not able to set up competitively for the conditions so does not figure in the first 3 places, he will be coming to races during the season. Hugh had one race.

A good day,s racing, enjoyed by all. Leslies,s Isis design, a narrow skiff, was fast and did not bury its bow in the gusts. Odd did very well with his modified Nimbus, which was not the fastest, but sailed artfully. Jim did not sail every race and had to get away before the last one. Grant had made a modification to his rudder, but this did not solve his problem so he was slow. John,s rudder arm was slipping on its shaft so he had to drop out of some races.

A passing interested member of the public was encouraged and told to look on our website

The results are as follows-,

Race 1. Odd, Leslie, John

Race 2. Odd, Leslie, John

Race 3. Leslie, John, Odd

Race 4. Leslie, John, Odd

Race 5. Leslie, Jim, Grant

Race 6. John, Leslie, Odd

Race 7. Odd, Leslie, John

Race 8. Odd, Jim, Hugh

Race 9. Odd, Jim, Leslie

Race 10. Leslie, Jim, Odd

Race 11. Odd, Leslie, John

Race 12. Leslie, Odd, Jim

Race 13. Leslie, John, Odd

Sounds like a good turnout for the first meeting in 2014 and quite a goodly number of races run. Long may it continue for the rest of the year. It will be a fair number of months before I can get to the pond again, but my eye is making progress and I hope I can get back to normal without any further operations having to be carried out.

Hope to see you all fairly soon, Derek.
