Club Annual General Meeting, 1st December 2013.

November 24, 2013 at 5:52 pm | Posted in News | Leave a comment

It is now confirmed that the Club 2013 AGM will be held on the 1st December in the Clubhouse to commence at 11am so please make every effort to be there and on time.
Subscriptions for the coming year are due immediately following the AGM, so please bring money. Payment of subscriptions on time is extremely important as the Secretary has to pass them on to the MYA before the end of January, failure to include every member will result in the member concerned being dropped from the MYA membership. It has been the case recently that a member, paying late, said he was not concerned about being a member of the MYA, that is hardly the point. The Club has chosen to be affiliated to the MYA and includes a levy for that purpose in the annual Club subscription and so payment on time is vital. From personal experience I know how irritating it is for the Treasurer and Secretary to have to make more than one payment to the MYA, in any case it seems foolish not to take advantage of the benefits that membership of the MYA brings if you are going to pay the Club subscription anyway.
As always, the AGM is the time and place to bring up any point you would like to make, or any change you would like to see in the Club. There will be ample time to do this in the Agenda under “Any other business” but it would help if advance notice of anything you would like to bring up was notified to the Secretary or Treasurer before the AGM.
I hope I have published this blog in time for someone to read it before the AGM. I hope to see you all there. Derek Cross, President, CMYC.

6 Metre racing at Clapham on the 17th November.

November 18, 2013 at 3:08 pm | Posted in News | Leave a comment

3rd Sunday 17 November – Six Metre day

Conditions
Wind force 1-2 easterly variable on the pond winding ways round trees and buildings. The mark on the far side of the pond was in wind shadow, critical to outcome rankings. Having to tack again near the mark and get moving in one mile an hour of wind put that boat well behind others who rounded relatively smoothly.

To speed up the course the start mark buoy was moved west away from the clubhouse. Those racing from time to time were: Leslie, Grant, Jim, John, Ted and Hugh. Also attending were: Fred, who did not realise 3rd Sunday was six metre day, otherwise would be prepared to sail his six; and Richard who has continued to come, as on one metre day, for building work on his one metre.

Results
Race 1: Grant. Leslie, Jim
Race 2: Jim, John, Leslie
Race 3: Jim, Grant, Leslie
Race 4: Leslie, Ted, John
Race 5: Jim, John, Hugh
Race 6: Leslie, Ted, John

False conclusions should not be drawn from the results, Ted was late onto the water, and the boat he was sailing, Flipper, is an old design (Dolphin), not optimised for the metre rule in light conditions. A replacement suit of slippery scrim sandwich sails might help. Nevertheless, having a slow boat for the conditions he managed to sail well, and in the last race Leslie only scraped past him to first place by about a boat length.

The racing overall was tightly contested with close spacing at marks and finish. A good days racing, which can be exiting even on a light wind day.

The date for the AGM is rapidly approaching and is likely to be the 1st December at 11am and I urge all members to make every effort to attend.
Derek.

Firstly, my apologies for the late posting of this blog. I have been in the process of buying another car and my mind has been elsewhere, but here goes.
The conditions were sunny, but with a brisk wind force 4 gusting up to force 6 and chilly in the wind.
Not many members turned up and those that did chose to use middle rig, top rig proved too difficult to handle. Potential new member, Matthew, used middle rig but had to retire with rudder problems.
Scores were as follows-;
Race 1. Odd, Jim, Leslie
Race 2. Leslie, Odd, Jim
Race 3. Leslie, Odd, Jim
Race 4. Leslie, Jim, Odd
Race 5. Leslie, Odd, Jim
Race 6. Odd, Jim
Race 7. Leslie, Odd
Looks like Leslie had a good day with Odd not far behind.
I understand that the AGM is likely to held on Sunday the 1st December and I urge every member to make every effort to attend. We usually plan to commence the meeting at 11am so don,t be late.
Derek.
