My apologies for not being at the pond to join in the sailing. I understand the weather was cloudy at first with light winds. The sun did break through about 1pm and, if it was anything like it was at home, became very hot.
There were not all that many members there but in spite of the light winds a goodly number of races were run with nearly everyone having a win at least once as can be seen from the results, which are as follows-;
Race 1. Jim, John, Fred
Race 2. Leslie, Jim, John
Race 3. John, Leslie, Jim
Race 4. John, Hugh, Fred
Race 5. Leslie, Fred, Jim
Race 6. Jim, John, Fred
Race 7. John, Fred, Jim
Race 8. Fred, John
Race 9. Jim, John
Race 10. John, Leslie, Hugh

When I spoke to the features writer from “The Village” magazine a couple of weeks ago she said she would try to get a photographer to the pond to illustrate the article. I subsequently spoke to the Editor of the magazine to arrange a visit, which I understand did take place on Sunday. From what I gather “The Village” magazine is a local magazine which publishes articles of interest to local residents and businesses around Clapham. The photographer took shots of the first three races and showed much interest in our efforts. We were told the Club would receive a copy of the magazine when the article is published.
In recent correspondence with the Council we have been told that money has been found to make repairs and improvements to the pond and it,s surroundings in an attempt to prevent leakage. This work has now been started and the eastern end of the pond has been dug up as part of those repairs and for this reason the course on Sunday had the start line moved to the west of the Clubhouse, perhaps that shorter course had some bearing on the number of races run.
It is great to see that the Council are taking steps to improve the pond and it,s surroundings. How far those improvements will go only time will tell, but anything will be a help.
I much regret my absence from the pond, but age is taking it,s toll and my appearances at the pond will become less I fear. Derek.
