In blustery conditions the members had an excellent and entertaining day of racing in spite of being plagued by rain. But even the rain couldn’t dampen the racing, which was competitive and close. In wind strengths would lay a B rigged boat flat in the gusts, Ted took the brave decision to go out in the full A rig, while every one else went with the middle B rig.

Ted’s decision seemed to be the right one when he took the first win of the day, closely followed by Graham and Jim. But the joy of the win was short lived as the wind steadily increased and during the gusts Ted was carrying too much sail, while the boats with the B rig would still make ground. However off the wind Ted’s extra sail area paid off as he could steadily catch up boats that had over taken him. This made for some very close finishes. Graham took the next three wins followed by Ted each time, but then the rain became too much so we took a break from the elements.

After lunch the wind had lost some of its strength, giving Ted the opportunity to stay in control for longer, and wins alternated between him and Graham for the four races in the afternoon.
